Aluminium Sheet, Plates & Coil 6061

6061 is a heat-treatable Al–Mg–Si plate. Strength for the weight, corrosion resistance, welding, and machining are why it is used for structure, marine parts, electronics housings, and decorative work. It is one of the most common alloys in a machine shop.

Length up to 6 m, fixed, cut-to-length, or to the drawing.

Film: blue, transparent, black and white, or paper, 50 µm or 80 µm.

Surface: mill finish, bright, polished, hairline, brush, sand blast, checkered, embossed, etching.

Listed inventory runs from 0.8 mm through 280 mm. Recurring blanks are 48.5 × 98.43 in, 60 × 118.11 in, 78.74 × 157.48 in, and 69 × 220.47 in, in T6 and T651. Sheet gauges in that list include 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 5, and 6 mm.

Properties by temper

A separate T451 line published for this grade is 35 ksi tensile, 21 ksi yield, and 25% elongation.

T4 is solution treated and naturally aged, so it forms more readily than T6. T6 is artificially aged, so tensile and yield sit higher. T651 is T6 that has been stretched to cut residual stress, which is why thick plate for machining is usually ordered in T651. T6 also takes an anodised finish.

Diamond plate in this alloy is chosen where the weld has to stay sound and the surface has to keep a tread in service.
