Technical Overview

Heat-sink extrusion is a profile whose fins are part of the section. The usual alloy is 6063-T5. 6061-T6 is used when the sink is also a chassis. 1050 is used when conductivity matters more than strength.

6061-T6 thermal conductivity is published at about 167 W/m·K. 1050, at about 99.5% aluminium, is published up to 230 W/m·K. These ranges are typical design bands, not a promise that every ratio extrudes in every alloy.
