Technical Overview

5086 tube is a marine magnesium alloy, close to 5083, supplied where the hollow section has to live in seawater. Arc welding is the usual method. Schedule pipe in the same alloy is 5086 aluminium pipe. Plate is 5086 sheet and plate.

Published tube range: round outside diameter 0.54–12.75 in, wall 0.09–0.69 in. Square tube, side 1–6 in, wall 0.125–0.375 in. Length up to 6 m. Tempers commonly listed: H32 and H111. Pressure classes listed with this pipe: Schedule 40, Schedule 80, and Schedule 160.

Standards: WW-T-700/5, ASTM B221, ASTM B210, ASTM B241, ASTM B345, ASTM B483, ASTM B429.

Equivalents: UNS A95086, ISO AlMg4.
