4047 discs are stamped preforms of the near-eutectic Al–Si filler, about 11–13% silicon, also called EN AW-4047A and AlSi12. They sit in a joint so the filler volume is fixed before the furnace or the torch is lit. The melting range is narrow, 573–582 °C, which is why the fillet fills a small gap and then freezes.
