Technical Overview

2024 round tube is a heat-treatable aluminium-copper hollow used where fatigue strength matters more than corrosion resistance in the open. It is the tube form of the alloy on 2024 bar. Square tube in the same alloy is a separate page: 2024 square tube. Catalogue density is 2.78 g/cm³.

The alloy is sometimes described as Al-Cu-Mg. Copper and magnesium are the additions that respond to heat treatment.

O drawn seamless is commonly AMS 4087 and ASTM B210. T3 drawn seamless is commonly AMS 4088 and AMS-WW-T-700/3. Listed O sizes run from 3/8 in OD × 0.035 in wall through 1 3/4 in OD × 0.12 in wall. Listed T3 sizes start at 1/4 in OD × 0.028 in wall. A listed T3511 size is 3 1/4 in OD × 0.25 in wall.
